Staff Sofware Engineer: IBM, San Jose, CA, 2010 - Present

  • Software test planning and execution, primarily functioning in an integration test capacity.
  • Responsible for helping test a variety of data mobility products and assisting testing a related product when necessary. Responsibilities include test plans, test cases, test execution, test reports, opening and verifying work requests/bug reports, and helping recreate customer issues.
  • Primary engineer responsible for automated test design, frontend and backend feature implementation, and any other improvements to the test automation framework. Automation framework uses a combination of Perl, Python, PHP, HTML, Javascript, and shell scripting.
  • Work closely with other testers and developers to improve automated framework with bug fixes and feature requests.
  • Backup for lab administrator and build engineer (vacation, illness, or other unexpected absence).
  • Responsible for security standard implementation.
  • Provide various scripts and web applications to improve efficiency for manual tasks, such as gathering machine status reports, lab machine inventories, security standard remediation status tracking, automated password changes for lab machine access, and other minor projects.

Test automation interacts with many technologies including virtualization, blade server management consoles, and disk and volume managers.
  • Designed and implemented a frontend to interact with various network installation service backends (Jumpstart, Ignite, NIM, PXE, AutoYast, and Anaconda) and create templates, answer files, or configuration files as necessary to allow remote hands-off installation systems over the network.
  • Assisted automated test design and various automation framework improvements.
